    Former Deputy Director of the Nationwide Service Scheme (NSS), Gifty Oware-Mensah, has been launched by the Nationwide Intelligence Bureau (NIB).

    She was taken into custody on Friday, seventh March, as a part of investigations into the continued NSS ghost names scandal. Studies point out that she was launched on Saturday, eighth March, after an preliminary interrogation and is anticipated to be recalled within the coming days for additional questioning.

    Nevertheless, the particular phrases of her bail settlement with the NIB stay unclear.

    Background

    The NSS ghost names scandal has rocked Ghana, with allegations that billions of cedis have been fraudulently siphoned from public funds.

    An investigation by The Fourth Property uncovered massive payroll fraud inside the NSS, exposing hundreds of faux names and fraudulent scholar index numbers linked to a few of Ghana’s prime universities.

    The exposé, which spans the eight-year tenure of former President Nana Akufo-Addo (2017–2024), revealed that fraudulent identities have infiltrated the system since 2018, resulting in an estimated lack of 2.2 billion cedis.

    The faux index numbers had been linked to establishments comparable to Kwame Nkrumah College of Science and Know-how (KNUST), College for Improvement Research (UDS), College of Schooling, Winneba (UEW), Tamale Technical College, Valley View College (VVU), and several other faculties of training.

    The scandal has raised severe issues over monetary mismanagement and corruption inside the Nationwide Service Scheme, prompting intensified investigations into these accountable.

    Associated Arrests

    Not too long ago, Kwaku Ohene Gyan, popularly generally known as Osonoba, the previous Deputy Director of Operations on the NSS, was detained as a part of the continued probe.

    Moreover, the NIB has questioned Yaw Danso, an accountant on the NSS, though he has denied any involvement within the scandal.

    The investigations stay ongoing, with extra arrests and interrogations anticipated as authorities search to unravel the complete scale of the corruption scandal.
