    Minority Leader accuses government over harassment of Akwatia MP

    The Minority Chief, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has accused the federal government of colluding with the Koforidua Excessive Courtroom to harass Mr Ernest Yaw Kumi, New Patri­otic Social gathering Member of Parliament for Akwatia.

    This accusation comes after Inte­rior Minister, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka’s, clarification of makes an attempt to arrest Mr Kumi following a bench warrant issued for his arrest on contempt prices.

    Mr Afenyo-Markin expressed dismay on the Minister’s justifi­cation, stating, “Clearly, there’s collusion between the federal government and the excessive court docket, Koforidua, to make use of their very own set of legal guidelines in our nation.”

    The Minority Chief empha­sised, throughout a press convention in Parliament Home, in Accra, on Wednesday that the federal government’s actions weren’t in step with the nation’s legal guidelines, highlighting the right process for imposing a court docket order.

    “When there’s a court docket order, it’s for the registrar to assign a bai­liff for the needs of imposing the order,” Mr Afenyo-Markin defined.

    “This was a state of affairs the place the Supreme Courtroom had already frozen the enforcement of that order,” he added.

    The Minority Chief recount­ed the alleged harassment of Mr Kumi by state safety operatives, alleging, that, “They had been armed with pickup automobiles, and in reality, they really pulled a weapon, a pistol on the MP, attempting to threaten him, to pressure him into the pickup.”

    He additionally introduced plans to file a query with the Legal professional Basic to deal with the alleged collusion be­tween the judiciary and the nationwide safety coordinator.
