    New GSS boss Dr Alhassan Iddrisu pledges accurate, timely data for national development

    The newly appointed Authorities Statistician, Dr Alhassan Iddrisu, has reaffirmed his dedication to delivering correct and well timed knowledge as a cornerstone of Ghana’s growth technique.

    Talking on the sidelines of the 2025 IMF/World Financial institution Spring Conferences in Washington, he stated strengthening the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) could be central to his mandate, stressing that dependable knowledge is essential for efficient financial planning and resilience within the face of world shocks.

    “Strengthening Ghana’s statistical programs isn’t a luxurious anymore. It’s a strategic crucial,” he said.

    “It enhances our means to anticipate, reply to, and recuperate from shocks whereas fostering inclusive and sustainable growth to enhance livelihoods.”

    Dr. Iddrisu, who took half in a gathering of the G-24 deputies, highlighted the wide-ranging affect of world disruptions — from local weather change and pandemics to commerce tensions and geopolitical instability — and emphasised the necessity for data-driven options.

    “On the assembly, we mirrored on the compounded affect of world shocks starting from globalisation, commerce tensions, protectionism, deteriorating safety environments, advancing applied sciences, local weather change, and pandemics to geopolitical instability,” he famous.

    “On this context, statistical growth emerges as a cornerstone of efficient response as we navigate an period of coverage disaster.”

    He additionally identified the rising relevance of credible and disaggregated knowledge in crafting evidence-based insurance policies, managing the macroeconomy, and having access to international finance.

    “For Ghana, the position of high-quality, credible, well timed, and disaggregated knowledge in informing evidence-based coverage, in supporting macroeconomic administration, in strengthening sectoral resilience, and in enabling entry to international finance, has turn out to be extra related in the present day than ever earlier than,” Dr Iddrisu added.
