The Director of Communications for the opposition New Patriotic Occasion (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has urged President John Mahama to hunt legislative backing for the Code of Conduct he has proposed for public officers, stating that such a transfer would give the initiative real weight and credibility.

On 14 Might, authorities spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu revealed that Sammy Gyamfi had been cautioned to conduct himself appropriately following public backlash over his controversial greenback reward to self-styled evangelist, Agradaa.

A video of the incident — which the Chief Govt Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, later described as a “regrettable act of kindness” — went viral throughout social media platforms. Within the footage, Gyamfi was seen within the backseat of his car, counting greenback notes, a few of which he handed over to Agradaa.

The incident sparked widespread condemnation, with political analysts and members of the Minority in Parliament calling for Gyamfi’s elimination from any future function in John Mahama’s potential administration, citing a breach of the Code of Conduct issued by the previous president to all his appointees.

Following a reported assembly with Mahama’s Chief of Workers, Julius Debrah, the occasion resolved to not take additional disciplinary motion. As a substitute, a public apology issued by Gyamfi the day after his encounter with Agradaa was deemed enough.

Talking on JoyNews’ Newsfile, Mr Ahiagbah questioned the efficacy and impartiality of a Code of Conduct that depends solely on the discretion of the President.

“What I believe we should always do as a rustic — if President Mahama would assist all of us — he ought to search legislative backing for this Code of Conduct so it’s legislation,” he mentioned.

He warned in opposition to a system the place enforcement of moral requirements is left to the subjective judgment of the presidency, describing it as open to bias. “In order that it doesn’t fall to his workplace and say, ‘Oh, you might be my favorite, so you might be this or that’. We’re a critical nation.”

The NPP communicator argued that if conduct amongst public officers is actually a matter of nationwide significance, it shouldn’t stay throughout the unique protect of the President to find out sanctions or responses.

“If the matter to do with conduct of public officers is one that’s key — and I consider it’s — then why does it develop into the protect of the President to find out what sanction? We should always make it legislation,” he added.
