    CJ Torkornoo’s posture after suspension is provocative and abusive of the Constitution – Dr Khalid

    Professor Sharif Mahmud Khalid, Financial Adviser to the Vice President, has criticised the conduct of suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, describing her actions since her suspension as each provocative and a violation of the 1992 Structure.

    Talking on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme on Saturday, twenty fourth Might, Dr Khalid questioned the propriety of her public posture within the wake of the constitutional course of initiated in opposition to her.

    “For me, her posturing as a suspended Chief Justice quantities to a provocation of the Judiciary and an abuse of the 1992 Structure,” he said firmly.

    Dr Khalid expressed concern that the Chief Justice, given her understanding of constitutional procedures, should have identified the bounds of her actions throughout such proceedings.

    He argued that the structure clearly outlines the method to be adopted in such issues, together with the requirement for proceedings to be held in-camera.

    “It’s express within the structure that the processes ought to be in-camera, and as CJ what meaning,” he stated, suggesting that her latest request to have the proceedings held in public runs opposite to these constitutional provisions.

    Dr Khalid additional famous that when a petition reaches the Council of State, the method turns into automated, with no room for presidential discretion or interference.

    “It’s express that the President has nothing to do with the method when it will get to the Council of State—it should take an automated course of, and she or he is aware of it,” he added.
