    IGP orders major raids on illegal mining sites along River Ankobra: 61 arrested

    The Inspector-Common of Police this week ordered main raids on unlawful mining operations in and across the River Ankobra within the Western and Western Central areas, resulting in the arrest of a complete of 61 unlawful miners.

    The suspects included 17 Burkinabes, with the remainder being Ghanaians.

    A number of changfan machines have been destroyed, whereas six excavator machine displays, two excavator batteries, and 32 gallons of gasoline have been seized.

    In Nzema East, the operation was led by the Municipal Chief Government, Herbert Nuah Dickson, the Divisional Police Commander, Isaac Kwasi Sorkpah, and different high-ranking law enforcement officials.

    The group encountered miners actively working on the River Ankobra. Amongst these arrested was 20-year-old Musah Ali and his colleagues, who have been polluting the river at Abelebo and Duale.

    Within the Western Central area, a separate operation led by the Regional Crime Officer, Chief Superintendent Appiah Kusi, resulted within the arrest of 10 people who have been mining close to the Akyem Motor Highway and beneath high-tension electrical energy transmission traces.

    One other operation in the identical area, led by the Regional Crime Officer and involving 30 personnel at Kaniankor-Nsuaem, noticed the arrest of fifty unlawful miners. One of many suspects, 47-year-old Kwame Sarfo, was present in possession of gear suspected to be narcotic medicine.

    Police say all suspects are being processed for court docket.

    The coordinated operations coated Nzema East, Kaniankor-Nsuaem, areas alongside the Akyem Motor Highway, and areas on the River Ankobra at Abelebo and Duale.
