    Eric Opoku urges AU-EU to prioritize innovation for food security at ministerial conference in Rome

    The Minister for Meals and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, has known as on African and European nations to decide to elevated funding in analysis, innovation, and expertise to make sure equitable meals distribution and long-term international meals safety.

    Delivering an announcement on the sixth African Union-European Union Agriculture Ministerial Convention held on the FAO Headquarters in Rome, Mr. Opoku emphasised that true prosperity can’t be achieved whereas thousands and thousands proceed to endure from starvation.

    “We should ship prosperity to humankind as a result of the hungry man isn’t a free man,” he declared, stressing that though the world produces sufficient meals to feed its inhabitants, inequitable distribution results in waste and widespread starvation.

    Talking beneath the theme “A Sustainable Future for Agriculture and Meals Programs”, the Minister famous the paradox of Africa’s agricultural potential.

    Regardless of holding 60 to 65 per cent of the world’s arable land, Africa contributes solely about 10 per cent to international agricultural output.

    Mr Opoku acknowledged the EU’s energy in analysis and technological innovation, urging stronger AU-EU collaboration to leverage these assets and tackle shared agricultural challenges.

    He described co-membrane AU-EU agricultural partnerships as key to constructing resilient meals programs and delivering sustainable growth.

    “We should not restrict our relationship to only discussions and conferences,” he stated. “We should seize this chance to develop extra practicable options that can stabilise and develop our economies by agriculture.”

    He concluded with a name to motion, expressing hope that the experience gathered on the convention would translate into daring methods able to remodeling the agricultural narrative throughout each continents.

    The high-level ministerial convention introduced collectively policymakers, researchers, and growth companions to chart a brand new path for meals programs transformation by innovation-driven agricultural practices.
