    We will reduce prices by significant margin if shipping charges are reviewed – GUTA

    The Ghana Union of Merchants Affiliation (GUTA) has assured that its members will transfer shortly to cut back costs of products if authorities is ready to take care of excessive transport expenses and charges on the ports. 

    The present excessive transport expenses and charges, in response to the merchants, has been a significant affect in figuring out costs of products in the marketplace.

    The merchants have applauded authorities for taking steps to make sure that transport strains scale back their expenses consistent with expenses within the West African area.

    The first Vice President of the GUTA, Clement Boateng disclosed this on PM EXPRESS BUSINESS Version with host George Wiafe on the Matter:  “Mid-12 months Finances Overview and Expectations of Non-public Sector.”

    Transport expenses issues

    President John Mahama lately directed Transport Minister, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, and the Lawyer-Basic and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine to take crucial steps to handle unauthorised transport expenses on the ports.

    The President’s motion, was influenced by a number of complains from companies about unapproved charges and expenses on the port.

    Mr. Boateng described the president’s motion as prudent and in the correct path. 

    He revealed that many of the transport strains cost excessive charges for companies in Ghana, in contrast to what’s charged in Togo, Benin, Ivory Coast and Nigeria.

     “This isn’t truthful and it has to cease. That’s the reason we totally again the motion by President John Mahama”, he stated.

    Cedi Appreciation and Pricing issues  

    Mr. Boateng introduced that GUTA members have commenced a second spherical of value discount for some items.

    He added that some merchants have additionally moved to cut back costs of spare elements, which delayed just a little on account of merchants observing the sustainability of the cedi’s achieve.

    Mr. Boateng revealed that spare elements sellers have lowered some objects that used to price about GH₵1,500 to GH₵1,200.

    “I can promise you that if you go to the market, you’ll understand that objects have gone down consistent with our promise to regulate costs from July this 12 months”, he affirmed.

    He suggested, shoppers to “store round” to pressure merchants to additional scale back costs.

    Mr. Boateng rejected arguments that the majority regionally owned companies should not lowering their costs consistent with the cedi’s appreciation.
