    AWLN calls for immediate end to galamsey menace

     The African Wom­en Leaders Community (AWLN) Ghana Chapter, has expressed fear concerning the devastating affect of unlawful mining (galamsey) and known as for its quick finish, describing it as a menace the nation has “no motive to proceed.”

    The community emphasised that the observe had triggered exten­sive environmental destruction, ruined livelihoods, and led to pointless lack of lives, together with youngsters born with deformities as a result of polluted water and girls risking their lives in unsafe min­ing circumstances.

    The decision was made yesterday in Accra when the group laid a wreath in honour of the eight victims of the August 6, navy helicopter crash within the Adansi space of the Ashanti Area.

    The tragedy claimed the lives of distinguished Ghanaians, together with Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah; Min­ister for Setting, Science, Know-how and Innovation, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed; Appearing Deputy Nationwide Safety Coordinator Limuna Mohammed Muniru; Vice-Chairman of the Nationwide Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Sarpong; former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye; and three Ghana Air Power crew members Squadron Chief Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

    Talking on behalf of the community, AWLN Ghana Chapter Chairperson, Dr Charity Binka, indicated that, “We now have come to honour the departed for the sacrifice they made. Their blood ought to converse loudly that sufficient is sufficient. This unlawful mining in our nation should cease. We now have no motive to proceed.”

    “AWLN mourns with Presi­dent John Dramani Mahama, the bereaved households, and the individuals of Ghana,” she added.
