The Nationwide Anti-Unlawful Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has confiscated 50 chanfang machines and different gear used for unlawful mining alongside the Ankobra River within the Western Area.

In a joint operation with the Nzema East Blue Water Guards on Friday, August 22, 2025, the group focused unlawful mining websites within the Abelebo and Akango communities throughout the Nzema East Municipality.

The raid adopted studies of extreme environmental destruction alongside the Ankobra River and its surrounding communities.

Appearing on intelligence from native informants and surveillance offered by the Blue Water Guards, the duty power stormed the websites. The unlawful miners, who had been captured on drone footage in important numbers, fled upon the group’s arrival.

The operation led to the seizure and destruction of fifty chanfang machines, polytanks, mills, pipelines, and several other makeshift constructions erected as shelters for the miners.

Extra objects, together with fridges, a bike, PVC pipes, and excavator components deserted on the websites, had been additionally confiscated.

The Administrator of NAIMOS, Joyce Asiedu, confirmed the operation and reaffirmed NAIMOS’ dedication to sustaining efforts to fight unlawful mining in collaboration with the Blue Water Guards.
