2028 NPP Presidential aspirant Dr Bryan Acheampong has stirred controversy and anger following feedback he made, which have been deemed tribalistic and divisive, in a gathering with 2024 NPP parliamentary candidates who didn’t win their seats.

Dr Acheampong hosted the defeated parliamentary candidates at his Rock Metropolis Resort in Mpraeso earlier at present, however the assembly ended with attendees expressing disappointment over what they described as tribal bigotry by the previous Agriculture Minister.

The Abetifi MP, making a case for NPP delegates to elect him because the get together’s 2028 flagbearer, urged delegates to reject former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

His cause was that Dr Bawumia is Mamprusi, and Kusasis won’t vote for the NPP because of the age-long battle between the 2 tribes.

Dr Acheampong cited the battle as an element which contributed to the NPP’s loss within the presidential and parliamentary seats within the space.

Dr Acheampong said that “As a result of the battle is between these two individuals and we introduced considered one of them as our candidate, it made us lose seats within the 2024 election. We can not watch for this example to be resolved and keep in opposition as a result of the suspicion won’t go away,” Dr Bryan Acheampong instructed the gathering.

Nevertheless, a number of attendees appeared visibly uncomfortable by the remark and murmured in disapproval as Dr Acheampong spoke.

One in all them, the NPP’s 2024 Ayawaso East parliamentary candidate, Zak Rahman, rejected Dr Acheampong’s try to make use of tribal arguments in charge Dr Bawumia for the get together’s defeat in each the presidential and parliamentary elections.

Rahman argued that the NPP suffered widespread defeat throughout the nation, together with within the parliamentary election, through which the NPP misplaced about 50 seats, together with a few of its conventional strongholds, including that Dr. Bawumia couldn’t be blamed due to his tribe.

Zak Rahman cited demographics of the constituency, explaining that information from the 2024 election outcomes steered that even in polling stations in areas like 37, Kanda, and Asylum Down, that are conventional NPP strongholds, numbers there declined as a result of voter apathy amongst NPP supporters, as was the case in NPP strongholds.

He added that it could be fallacious in charge Dr Bawumia for the NPP’s presidential and parliamentary defeats as a result of his tribe and known as for the get together to somewhat “unite and are available collectively” for victory.

In the meantime, various the 2024 candidates who attended the assembly have expressed disappointment in Dr Acheampong for advancing what they stated was a divisive tribal marketing campaign.

“It’s fairly unlucky, and I used to be very disturbed and disillusioned by such tribal and divisive feedback. Lots of my colleagues seated near me additionally expressed disapproval,” one of many attendees stated.

He added: “I’ve a superb relationship with Bryan Acheampong, however I do know what is sweet for the get together and which candidate can unite us for the NPP and provides us victory. I’m very disillusioned in Bryan for such unfounded tribal feedback, which solely divide and weaken the NPP.”

One other, from the Western Area, questioned the logic in Dr Bryan Acheampong’s feedback and requested whether or not it was the Mamprusi-Kusasi warfare which brought on the NPP to lose parliamentary seats in his area and different areas throughout the nation.

“A few of our candidates must deal with us with respect after they invite us,” he stated.

“We went into an election and misplaced about 50 parliamentary seats throughout the nation, not solely within the Higher East. Should you return to 2020, we misplaced near 90 seats, and also you invite us and begin blaming Bawumia. What number of seats did we’ve got in Higher East, and what number of did we lose? There isn’t a logic in Bryan’s feedback, and I consider it is just influenced by tribal hatred, which is surprising coming from somebody who desires to guide the get together.”

One other expressed shock at why Bryan Acheampong and different hopefuls within the NPP presidential race are making tribe and faith a central theme of their marketing campaign messages.

“Our get together is already affected by tribal and spiritual labelling, and I might have wished that leaders in search of to guide us would have somewhat proven us some substance of their messaging. Inviting us all the way in which right here to inform us we must always not vote for a specific candidate as a result of he belongs to this or that tribe is the bottom anyone can go. I’m upset and so are lots of my colleagues right here,” one parliamentary candidate from the Ashanti Area stated.

In the meantime, various NPP supporters have condemned Bryan Acheampong for the feedback on social media reactions.
