The Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has disclosed that cupboard has accepted the proposed personal sector participation within the Electrical energy Firm of Ghana (ECG) and Northern Electrical energy Distribution Firm (NEDCo).

He added that the Legislative Instrument has been subsequently submitted to Parliament.

“Cupboard has already accepted personal sector participation, and now we have submitted the Legislative Instrument to Parliament to allow aggressive procurement for energy crops. These are important steps towards bringing transparency and sustainability to the sector”, Dr. Forson mentioned in a Fb publish.

He insisted that the Power Compact has come on the proper time with the potential to make a long-lasting affect if the method will not be delayed.

“Time is of the essence. We should act swiftly to show this round for the nice of our financial system and the well-being of our individuals”, he mentioned.

Ghana’s energy sector is saddled with a $2 billion debt, which has change into a priority for the present administration.

Dr. Forson emphasised that Ghana’s power sector is at present the largest financial threat the nation faces.

“This problem goes past tariffs. The whole power worth chain requires pressing reform. Inefficiencies, particularly within the distribution sector, are being handed onto the unusual Ghanaian by excessive tariffs. ECG alone may lower the shortfall by half if it addresses these inefficiencies,” he mentioned.
