Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkonoo, is liable to removing as President John Mahama consults the Council of State over three petitions in search of her dismissal.
An announcement signed by Minister of Authorities Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, dated twenty sixth March, confirmed:
President Mahama has obtained three (3) petitions from varied people in search of the removing of the Chief Justice. The President has forwarded these petitions to the Council of State to start the session course of as mandated by Article 146 of the 1992 Structure.

Justice Torkonoo, who succeeded Justice Kwasi Anin-Yeboah, was sworn in as Ghana’s fifteenth Chief Justice and the third lady to carry the place on twelfth June 2023 by former President Akufo-Addo.

Earlier Petitions Towards the Chief Justice
On seventeenth December 2024, authorized scholar Professor Kwaku Asare invoked Article 146(1) of the Structure, demanding the Chief Justice’s removal over alleged misconduct and incompetence.

Warnings Towards the Removing of the Chief Justice
Famend economist and former Rector of the Ghana Institute of Administration and Public Administration (GIMPA), Professor Stephen Adei, has cautioned President Mahama against removing the Chief Justice and the Electoral Fee Chairperson.

He warned that such a transfer, if politically motivated, might undermine Ghana’s democratic establishments and set a troubling precedent for future administrations.
