    Galamsey Fight: Lands Minister launches rCOMSDEP to reform small-scale mining, create jobs

    The Minister for Lands and Pure Assets, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has launched a nationwide initiative to reform artisanal and small-scale mining.

    The programme, named the Accountable Cooperative Mining and Abilities Improvement Programme (rCOMSDEP), was unveiled on August 6, 2025, at Black Park close to the Obuasi Len Clay Sports activities Stadium within the Ashanti Area.

    Addressing authorities officers, miners, and trade stakeholders, the Minister stated rCOMSDEP replaces the Group Mining Scheme and the Nationwide Different Employment and Livelihood Programme (NAELP), which he described as poorly applied by the earlier Akufo-Addo administration.

    He defined that rCOMSDEP is designed to deal with the shortcomings of these initiatives by selling sustainable mining practices and creating viable jobs, particularly in mining communities.

    “At the moment marks a defining second in Ghana’s journey in the direction of sustainable improvement,” the Minister acknowledged.

    “We stand at a crossroads the place mining should develop into a catalyst for prosperity, not a curse on our land.”

    With approval from President Mahama and Cupboard, the Minister stated the brand new programme will give attention to three pillars: accountable cooperative mining schemes, expertise improvement and different livelihoods, and the restoration of degraded lands.

    rCOMSDEP can be applied by six parts: Cooperative Mining Schemes, Mine Assist Providers, Vocational Coaching and Entrepreneurship, Environmental Rehabilitation, Agricultural Development in Mining Areas, and Group Improvement.

    He referred to as on stakeholders to assist the initiative: “Allow us to redefine the way forward for artisanal and small-scale mining. Collectively, we will construct a sector that’s secure, authorized, and sustainable.”

    “The time has come to show our waters blue and our forests inexperienced by accountable mining. We start that journey immediately. We should succeed. It’s our obligation to future generations,” he added.

    Full nationwide rollout will start within the coming weeks, together with coaching, certification, and licensing assist in partnership with the College of Mines and Expertise, Tarkwa.
