    Gh₵ 3.5 billion budgeted for free Senior High School programme – Ato Forson

    The Finance Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has introduced that the federal government has allotted GH₵ 3.5 billion for the Free Senior High School (SHS) coverage.

    Presenting the 2025 Finances in Parliament on Tuesday, eleventh March, the Minister famous that the John Mahama-led administration has addressed funding considerations for the coverage by uncapping the GETFund.

    He acknowledged:

    President John Dramani Mahama has resolved the funding challenges by uncapping the GETFund. Mr Speaker, this ensures devoted funding for the total financing of free senior secondary faculty training and free tertiary training for individuals with disabilities.

    He additional added:

    Mr Speaker, this yr, the price range for the Free Senior Secondary Faculty Schooling Programme is GH₵ 3.5 billion. By uncapping the GETFund, we will probably be making an extra GH₵ 4.1 billion out there particularly for financing free secondary training and different associated expenditures.

    In his handle, the Finance Minister additionally introduced an allocation of GH₵ 292.4 million to start the distribution of free sanitary pads to feminine college students in main and secondary faculties.

    Moreover, he revealed that GH₵ 242.5 million has been budgeted to assist victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage, whereas GH₵ 200 million has been allotted to help victims of the latest tidal wave catastrophe that displaced residents within the Ketu South Constituency.

    Dr Forson additionally acknowledged that the federal government will present the cedi equal of $279 million as a revolving fund for the Ghana Gold Board. This may allow the board to buy and export at the least three tonnes of gold per week from small-scale miners.
