The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), in its efforts to help the civil creatorities to keep up legislation and order in Bawku and its environs within the Higher East Area, has intensified operations in response to ongoing clashes and intermittent gunfire within the space.
As a part of these efforts, troops have performed a collection of cordon and search operations aimed toward restoring calm and enhancing safety.
“Within the early hours of Monday, troops deployed at BINDURI heard sporadic gunshots coming from the Binduri Central Market space, Personnel swiftly moved to the placement and cordoned off the realm,” an announcement issued in Accra yesterday by the GAF signed by the Director Common Public Relations, Brigadier Common E. Aggrey Quashie, acknowledged.
A mixed workforce from the 11 Mechanised Battalion and the Joint Activity Drive, supported by the Police, it revealed, proceeded
to conduct detailed search operations to determine and apprehend these concerned.
In the course of the operation, one suspected gunman was arrested and handed over to the Police.
Gadgets retrieved throughout the search, the assertion stated, included one empty M16 rifle journal, an AK-47 rifle, a G3 rifle, 370 rounds of M16 and AK-47 ammunition, 128 rounds of G3 ammunition, a machete, 4 fragmentation jackets, a pair of shoes, and one helmet.
“Later within the day, some unrecognized gunmen tried to infiltrate Binduri however navy personnel on patrols prevented the infiltration. This led to an change of fireplace between the navy and the unknown gunmen who fled the scene.
