    Ghana government targets $1.2b investment for garment sector by 2030 – Deputy Minister

    The Ghana authorities goals to draw $1.2 billion in new investments to create 150,000 jobs within the garment and textiles trade by 2030.

    It additionally plans to revive cotton cultivation throughout 50,000 hectares to help native uncooked materials provide.

    Mr. Samson Ahi, Deputy Minister of Commerce, Agribusiness and Trade, disclosed this at a stakeholder validation workshop on the draft Textiles and Clothes Manufacturing Coverage in Accra.

    He mentioned the coverage would offer a coherent and aggressive framework to draw funding, improve productiveness, and place Ghana as a sourcing hub for moral and sustainable attire manufacturing.

    “The draft coverage proposes daring interventions starting from the institution of 5 world-class industrial parks to the creation of devoted funds for cotton improvement and textile upgradation, to the supply of fiscal incentives and concessional tariffs for producers,” he said.

    Mr. Ahi described the sector as each a cultural emblem and a strategic anchor of the federal government’s Industrialisation Agenda, with potential to generate employment, particularly for girls and youth, whereas boosting export diversification and sustainable improvement.

    “Our garment export sub-sector, though rising steadily, is but to succeed in its full potential. On the similar time, we face the twin challenges of accelerating imports of completed clothes and the erosion of home manufacturing capability,” he added.

    He urged stakeholders to assist revitalise Ghana’s textile legacy and unlock the total potential of the clothes sector.

    Dr Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo, Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, additionally referred to as on stakeholders to take possession of the coverage.
