    Ghana Navy commences probe into suspected pirate attack on fishing vessel in Ghanaian waters

    The Ghana Navy has introduced that it’s investigating a suspected pirate assault on a Ghanaian-registered fishing vessel, MENGXIN 1, that befell in its waters on the night of Thursday, 27 March 2025.

    That is contained in a press launch dated March 29 and signed by the Director-Basic of Public Relations of the Ghana Armed Forces, Brigadier Basic, E Aggrey-Quashie.

    “At roughly 17:53 hours, preliminary studies indicated that seven armed people boarded the ship and fired warning pictures, prompting a number of crew members to hunt cowl in a protected space. The pirates stayed on board for about three hours after assembling everybody on deck and confiscating their cellphones,” he revealed.

    Brigadier Basic Aggrey-Quashie added that, “Following their departure, the crew got here out of hiding to search out the Captain, Chief Mate, and Chief Engineer, all Chinese language nationals, lacking, who’re suspected of being kidnapped by the attackers. The crew needed to sail nearer to land earlier than reporting the occasion as a result of there was no cellular community protection at sea.”

    The Ghana Navy mentioned “Data on the incident has been shared with neighbouring nations via the ECOWAS Multinational Maritime Coordination Centre (MMCC) Zone F in Accra, beneath the Yaounde Structure for maritime safety. This was to alert our neighbours to additionally look out for the abductors.

    “In the meantime, all efforts are being made by intelligence businesses to find and free the crew of the ship,” the Navy assured.
