The Ghana Navy has launched an investigation into a suspected pirate assault on the Ghanaian-registered fishing vessel, Mengxin 1, which occurred in Ghanaian waters on the night of Thursday, March 27.
In accordance with a press launch issued by the Ghana Armed Forces on Saturday, March 29, the assault occurred at roughly 5:53 PM when seven armed people boarded the vessel and fired warning pictures.

The sudden assault pressured a number of crew members to hunt refuge in a safe space on the ship. The pirates remained on board for about three hours, throughout which they assembled the crew on deck and seized their cellphones.
After the assailants departed, the crew found that the Captain, Chief Mate, and Chief Engineer—all Chinese language nationals—have been lacking, elevating sturdy suspicions of kidnapping.
With no cell community protection at sea, the remaining crew, who have been unhurt, sailed nearer to land to report the incident.
The vessel has since docked safely on the Tema Fishing Harbour, where Marine Police and Naval Intelligence personnel from the Japanese Naval Command have performed preliminary interrogations, confirming the incident and suspected abduction.
In response to the assault, intelligence has been shared with neighbouring nations by the ECOWAS Multinational Maritime Coordination Centre (MMCC) Zone F in Accra, underneath the Yaoundé Structure for maritime safety. This coordinated effort goals to boost regional cooperation in monitoring the suspected kidnappers.
