    Ghanaian dies while performing Hajj in Saudi Arabia, authorities issue warning

    A Ghanaian pilgrim has sadly handed away throughout this 12 months’s Hajj within the holy metropolis of Makkah, Saudi Arabia.

    The deceased has been recognized as Hajia Yussif Hawabu, a 63-year-old girl from Tamale. Her loss of life occurred on Thursday, May15, 2025, whereas performing spiritual rituals with fellow Ghanaian pilgrims.

    The Administrator of Ghana’s Hajj Activity Pressure, Ismaila Skones, confirmed that Hajia Hawabu collapsed and died contained in the Masjid Al-Haram (Grand Mosque) whereas participating in Tawaf, which is the ritual of strolling across the Kaaba.

    Following Islamic custom, she has already been buried in Saudi Arabia. Mr. Skones expressed his sympathy to Hajia Hawabu’s household and reassured the general public that measures are in place to make sure the security and well being of all pilgrims.

    This 12 months, Ghana has sent a total of 6,000 pilgrims to Saudi Arabia to take part within the Hajj.

    Nationwide Hajj Taskforce points essential warning

    In the meantime, the National Hajj Taskforce has reminded Ghanaian pilgrims to not carry prohibited gadgets, corresponding to medicine and kola nuts, into Saudi Arabia. These warnings come consistent with strict regulations enforced by Saudi authorities in the course of the pilgrimage.

    At a press briefing in Accra on Friday, 16 Might, the Chairman of the Taskforce, Collins Dauda, urged safety officers to be alert and examine for any violations. He additionally mentioned the Taskforce is growing a system to penalise those that break the foundations. He mentioned:

    We indicated to our pilgrims the necessity to keep away from sending alongside prohibited gadgets like giant portions of kola, giant portions of tramadol, and huge portions of Gebedol to Saudi Arabia. Chewing of kola shouldn’t be prohibited in Ghana.

    Mr Dauda defined that these things are banned below Saudi legislation, not Ghana’s.

    The authorities in Saudi Arabia mentioned we shouldn’t convey kola. Ghana has nothing to do with it. If you wish to pray in Saudi Arabia, you could conform to their guidelines and respect their laws.

    He added that carrying such gadgets may harm Ghana’s status and result in severe penalties for offenders.
