The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has formally revoked all gold buying and selling licences beforehand issued by the Valuable Minerals Advertising and marketing Firm (PMMC) and the Ministry of Lands and Pure Assets.
Addressing journalists on Monday, June 29, appearing Chief Government Officer of the GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi, introduced a renewed nationwide crackdown on unlawful gold buying and selling and smuggling actions.
“In case you are not licensed by the Ghana Gold Board, you’re committing against the law when you purchase gold or interact in any type of gold buying and selling,” Mr Gyamfi declared.
He added, “We’ll not proceed to respect the licences issued underneath the outdated regime.”
He emphasised that earlier permits issued by the PMMC or by the minister chargeable for mines are not legitimate.
“That unlawful regime has come to an finish,” he stated. “PMMC licences or these issued by the ministry are usually not recognised underneath the present authorized framework.”
Mr Gyamfi acknowledged that some merchants could also be unaware of the regulatory change.
He confused, “Ignorance of the regulation is not any excuse. For the final time, we’re speaking to all stakeholders throughout the nation to do the needful.”
