The federal government has focused the manufacturing of 650,000 tonnes of cocoa beans for the 2025/26 crop season.

The long-term imaginative and prescient is to scale up yields to succeed in the a million tonne mark.

This was revealed by Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, as a part of the federal government’s renewed efforts to revitalise Ghana’s cocoa sector, which has seen important challenges in recent times attributable to local weather impacts, unlawful mining, smuggling and ageing farms.

“The goal for the crop 12 months is 650,000. We hope that we are going to do higher than that, however you must promise sustainability, so we’re taking a look at 650,000,” Dr. Forson revealed at a brief ceremony to announce the brand new cocoa producer value.

“Going ahead, the federal government will announce a method to extend the yields from 650,000 to at least one million, and that will probably be a part of the long-term technique we’ll put throughout as a part of the 2026 funds.”

After decreasing its forecast in December 2024 from 650,000 tons to 617,500 tons, Ghana Cocoa Board now anticipates a most harvest of 600,000 tons for the 2024/25 crop season, with about two to 3 months remaining within the season.

The finance minister indicated that whereas the present projection is modest within the context of Ghana’s previous cocoa highs, it’s rooted in a dedication to constructing a extra resilient and productive cocoa economic system.

The transfer can also be aligned with broader agricultural reforms and worth chain interventions anticipated to be introduced within the 2026 nationwide funds.

Ghana, the world’s second-largest cocoa producer, has in current seasons struggled to satisfy previous manufacturing data attributable to a mix of smuggling, low farmgate costs, and deteriorating farmer livelihoods.

This projection comes after the federal government introduced a 4.1% enhance within the value for the 2025/26 crop season.
