Non-public authorized practitioner Nana Agyei Baffour Barfour Awuah has condemned the arrest of Alfred Ababio Kumi, popularly referred to as Adenta Kumi, describing it as unjust and poorly dealt with.
Talking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning present, Mr. Awuah mentioned the early morning raid carried out by armed operatives believed to be from the Nationwide Intelligence Bureau (NIB) was pointless.
He requested, “Why couldn’t they wait and invite the person to elucidate himself? Why the frenzy to arrest him at daybreak like a hardened legal?”
Mr. Awuah mentioned the video on the heart of the problem doesn’t even present every part and insisted that correct investigations ought to have been performed first.
“Explaining himself may have cleared the air. The video doesn’t even comprise full footage, so this arrest is extreme and uncalled for,” he mentioned.
He revealed that he was in Kumasi when Kumi’s spouse referred to as him round 6 a.m. on Friday, screaming that armed males had stormed their home.
“She was shouting and panicking. Later she informed me they’d arrested him and brought him away.”
The Manhyia South MP mentioned he suggested Kumi to remain calm after receiving data the earlier evening that safety officers may come for him.
He has since requested Kumi’s attorneys to observe up on the matter.
Kumi’s arrest follows his latest petition to President John Mahama, calling for the dissolution of the committee investigating the elimination of the Chief Justice. In his petition, Kumi alleged misconduct involving committee members.
He claimed that on Might 15, 2025, after the committee’s inaugural sitting, Justices Pwamang and Adibu-Asiedu, together with Supreme Court docket Justice Yonni Kulendi, have been seen eating at Santoku Restaurant with Thaddeus Sory, counsel for petitioner Daniel Ofori.
Kumi mentioned they have been overheard discussing points associated to the petition, and believes the arrest is linked to that petition.
