The Inspector Basic of Police (IGP), Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has reactivated the police regional communications models to foster higher coordination and data sharing amongst regional police models.
The transfer by the IGP represents a shift from the earlier system the place information from the Ghana Police Service (GPS) was centralised at its headquarters.
Mr Yohuno made the announcement on the opening of a three-day workshop for public affairs officers on the Detective Coaching Academy in Accra yesterday to debate methods to strengthen the Public Affairs arm of the GPS.
“It’s on this premise that the present Police Administration, beneath my chiefship, will reactivate and revive all Regional Police Public Affairs workplaces to work together and meet the ever-evolving calls for of our society and media companions,” he mentioned.
As a part of the initiative, the IGP urged regional Public Relations Officers (PROs) to be vigilant in combating disinformation and misinformation related to the service.
For her half, the Director of Public Affairs of the Police Service, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Grace Ansah-Akrofi, expressed pleasure about being a part of the primary batch of PROs addressed by the IGP and benefiting from a coaching workshop to boost their abilities.
ACP Ansah-Akrofi acknowledged that efficient communication between the police and the general public was important, with regional Public Relations officers serving as the first bridge between regulation enforcement and the communities they served.
