    Late Prof Mills would be outraged by ‘galamsey’ menace – Charlotte Osei

    The previous Chairperson of the Electoral Fee (EC), Charlotte Osei, says the late President John Evans Atta Mills would have been outraged by the destruction brought on by unlawful mining, generally generally known as galamsey. 

    Talking on the thirteenth Anniversary Commemorative Lecture in Accra, Mrs Osei praised Prof Mills’ patriotism and dedication to securing Ghana’s future, describing him as a person of peace, humility, and democratic values. 

    “I’ve questioned many occasions, would Prof be proud of us, with me, with the present state of Ghana? I believe Prof could be outraged at how we’re committing ‘galamsey’ to wreck the environment, our water our bodies and our future,” she stated. 

    “Prof could be unhappy on the degree of lies and vitriol we hurl at one another day by day within the media, particularly on-line,” Mrs Osei added. 

    She famous that Prof Mills would, nevertheless, be happy with the prevailing peace in Ghana, the election of the primary feminine Vice President, and the rising involvement of the youth in management. 

    Mrs Osei recalled private experiences that mirrored his modesty, selflessness and openness to criticism.  

    She stated whilst President, he admitted fault when obligatory and remained centered on nationwide prosperity. 

    “His administration’s schooling insurance policies mirrored his perception that schooling needs to be each accessible and good. He labored to increase entry to schooling, significantly for ladies and youngsters from deprived backgrounds, whereas insisting on sustaining and bettering high quality,” she stated. 

    On his half, the Chief of Workers, Julius Debrah, described Prof Mills as “considered one of Africa’s greats” and urged folks in management roles to emulate his values of humility, excellence, and repair. 

    The lecture was organised by the J.E.A. Mills Memorial Heritage, a non-partisan organisation devoted to preserving and selling the legacy of the late President. 

    Chairperson of the Heritage, Alex Segbefia, introduced a collection of occasions to mark the thirteenth anniversary, together with a wreath-laying ceremony on July 24 at Asomdwee Park and a memorial hockey event on the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium.
