The Dansoman Circuit Court docket has sentenced a 48-year-old head porter, Yaw Asare, to 2 years in jail for unlawfully damaging elements of the newly constructed Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange in Accra.

In accordance with the Ministry of Roads and Highways, Asare was arrested on June 9, 2025, after he was caught damaging parapet beams and different equipment on the interchange.

He was later convicted of “inflicting illegal injury” below Part 172 of the Prison Offences Act (Act 29).

In an announcement, the Ministry expressed concern over what it described as a rising development of individuals destroying public highway infrastructure.

It cited instances of vandalism and highway crashes, significantly these involving site visitors lights, as severe threats to the nation’s highway community.

It reminded the general public that damaging highway infrastructure is a felony offence and warned that offenders wouldn’t be spared.

The Ministry added that it’ll proceed working with the Ghana Police Service to make sure anybody who destroys public property faces the complete power of the legislation.
