    NCA issues suspension notice to DStv Ghana, orders response within 30 days

    The continued deadlock between the federal government and DStv Ghana stays unresolved.

    The Nationwide Communications Authority (NCA) has served MultiChoice Ghana Restricted with a discover of its intention to droop the corporate’s Subscription Administration Service for its Satellite tv for pc Tv Broadcasting (Pay TV Direct-to-Residence Bouquet) Authorisation, in accordance with Part 13 of the Digital Communications Act, 2008 (Act 775).

    This regulatory transfer follows MultiChoice Ghana’s failure to implement a 30% discount in subscription costs, as directed by the Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Samuel Nartey George.

    An announcement from the NCA, dated 7 August, instructed the corporate to reply in writing inside 30 days:

    By this discover, MultiChoice Ghana has thirty (30) days inside which the corporate could current its views, or present remedial motion, and submit a written assertion of its objections to the suspension of the authorisation.

    Background

    Throughout the Authorities Accountability Collection held on Friday, 1 August, the Minister issued a stern ultimatum to MultiChoice Ghana. He demanded a 30% minimize in subscription charges by 7 August, warning that non-compliance might result in the suspension of the corporate’s broadcasting licence.

    He criticised the pricing hole between Ghana and Nigeria, noting that Ghanaian subscribers pay the equal of $83 for the premium bundle, whereas Nigerian clients pay solely $29 for a similar service.

    In response, an announcement dated 3 August 2025 and signed by Managing Director Alex Okyere described the proposed minimize as unrealistic. The corporate acknowledged the current appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi however argued that any pricing changes should issue within the prices of delivering high quality providers and guaranteeing buyer satisfaction.

    The Minister has since rejected the corporate’s clarification and maintained that sanctions can be enforced if the deadline was missed.
