    Sam George directs NCA to suspend DStv license on August 7 over high prices

    The Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Sam George, has instructed the Nationwide Communications Authority (NCA) to droop the broadcasting license of pay-TV operator DStv from August 7, 2025, if the corporate fails to scale back its subscription costs.

    Mr. George mentioned the directive follows DStv’s refusal to decrease costs regardless of the current appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi.

    He argued that Ghanaians had been paying considerably extra for a similar providers in comparison with subscribers in different African nations.

    Talking throughout the Authorities accountability collection on the Jubilee home, the Minister revealed that DStv had claimed the cedi’s current appreciation was not sturdy sufficient to warrant a worth drop, calling it “a fluke.”

    “However my obligation is to the Ghanaian individuals. I can’t stand by and watch what I imagine is obvious stealing from Ghanaians” Mr. George firmly acknowledged.

    He defined that DStv fees Ghanaian subscribers the equal of $83 for its premium bouquet, whereas Nigerians pay solely $29 for a similar content material. “How can this be justified?” he requested.

    The Minister added that though the cedi depreciated by 240% over the previous eight years, the Nigerian naira had depreciated much more by 409% but Nigerians nonetheless get pleasure from decrease DStv costs.

    Mr. George made it clear that DStv should both scale back its fees to match these in Nigeria or danger dropping its broadcasting license in Ghana by August 7.
