“The laboratory meant for 35 college students now serves greater than 2,000. Lecturers are pressured to separate college students into teams, which delays sensible classes and impacts studying outcomes,” one scholar organiser mentioned.

They revealed that a few of the meals samples displayed on the exhibition needed to be despatched to the Kwame Nkrumah College of Science and Expertise (KNUST) in Kumasi for testing because of insufficient sources on campus.

College members warned that with out speedy intervention, the standard of sensible coaching in residence economics might be compromised, stressing that well-equipped laboratories and trendy instructing instruments are important to organize graduates to compete in immediately’s job market.

UEW Vice Chancellor, Professor Stephen Jobson Mitchual, urged graduates to leverage the entrepreneurial abilities gained throughout their research slightly than focusing solely on formal employment.

“Residence economics equips college students with beneficial, marketable abilities that may maintain livelihoods after commencement,” he mentioned. “The notion that it’s for academically weaker college students is outdated and deceptive. It’s a self-discipline on the coronary heart of entrepreneurship, job creation, and nationwide improvement.”
