The Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, on Friday led the flag-raising and wreath laying ceremony to commemorate the 77th anniversary of the February 28, 1948 Christianborg Crossroad taking pictures incident.
The taking pictures, which led to the demise of three ex-servicemales – Sergeant Adjetey, Corporal Attipoe and Personal Odartey – was the impetus for the 1948 riots, a catalyst for the Gold Coast’s last push for independence.
Held yearly, the ceremony honours and remembers the three ex-servicemen who have been brutally murdered by the colonial police.
They have been amongst a whole lot of ex-servicemen who have been peaceabsolutely marching to the Osu Fort to current a petition to the then Governor, Sir Gerald Creasy.
The petition was in protest of the pittance fee acquired by means of gratuity after participating in World Struggle II, upon a number of unsuccessful appeals to the colonial administration to be given one thing befitting.
Accompanying the Vice President have been the Ministers for Defence and the Inside, Dr Edward Omane Boamah and Alhaji Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka respectively.
Flanged on either side by the 2 ministers, Vice President Prof. Opoku-Agyemang laid a wreath on behalf of the Government and other people of Ghana.
Chief of the Defence Workers, Normal Thomas Oppong Peprah, laid the second wreath on behalf of the safety companies and Main Gen. (Rtd) Clayton Yaachie, the rapid previous Chairman of the Veterans Association of Ghana on behalf of the veterans.
The Osu Alata Mantsɛ, Nii Kwabena Bonney V, and Michael Attipoe, a consultant of the households of the three fallen heroes additionally laid wreaths.
Different dignitaries on the ceremony have been the Inspector Normal of Police Dr George Akuffo Dampare, Presidential Advisor on the 24 -hour economic system, Goosie Obuadum Tanoh, and the 2024 Flagbearer of the Folks’s Nationwide Conference, Bernard Mornah, amongst others.
A parade contingent, consisting of officers from the Ghana Military, Navy, Air Pressure, Police and the Veteran Affiliation of Ghana have been additionally in attendance.
