    Minority slams government over non-payment of statutory funds

    The Minority in Parliament has strongly criticised the federal government and Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, over the non-payment of key statutory funds, describing the state of affairs as a gross violation of monetary rules and a critical menace to native improvement.

    Addressing journalists in Parliament, Minority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, lamented that vital statutory funds—together with the District Assemblies Widespread Fund (DACF), Social Funding Fund (SIF), Nationwide Well being Insurance coverage Scheme (NHIS), Ghana Training Belief Fund (GETFund), and second-quarter parliamentary releases—haven’t been honoured, regardless of constitutional necessities mandating quarterly disbursements.

    He argued that the delay contravenes Act 963, which compels the federal government to make well timed funds to help decentralization and make sure the clean functioning of important providers.

    “The federal government has collected the taxes, but refuses to launch the funds to the establishments they’re meant for,” Annoh-Dompreh mentioned. “That is severely affecting the operations of native assemblies and different establishments that depend upon these funds to operate successfully.”

    The MP additional accused the Finance Minister of unilaterally deciding to postpone the funds till June 2025, with out providing transparency on how beforehand collected funds have been utilized.

    Based on Annoh-Dompreh, over GH¢7 billion was allotted within the 2025 finances for native governance-related disbursements, but none has been paid to this point.

    He warned that the Minority would discover each constitutional and parliamentary avenue to compel the federal government to fulfil its statutory obligations.

    “We is not going to permit this administration to proceed these violations in its first 12 months of workplace with out penalties,” he declared.
