    UTAG demands urgent action on galamsey, threatens strike over ‘inactions’

    The College Academics Affiliation of Ghana (UTAG) has known as out President John Dramani Mahama over what it describes as his administration’s inaction in tackling unlawful mining, regionally referred to as galamsey.

    In keeping with the affiliation, the federal government has did not make any important strides in addressing the menace over the previous six months, regardless of President Mahama’s earlier dedication to eradicating unlawful and irresponsible mining in Ghana forward of the 2024 common elections.

    The President had pledged to take decisive motion by signing the “Nationwide Pledge Towards Unlawful and Irresponsible Mining (Galamsey)”.

    UTAG expressed its issues in an announcement issued following an emergency Nationwide Govt Council (NEC) assembly held on Thursday, seventeenth July 2025, which reviewed the federal government’s actions up to now six months with regard to the combat towards unlawful mining.
