    Helicopter Crash: Mahama confirms receipt of forensic reports on victims

    President John Dramani Mahama has confirmed that forensic stories for all eight victims of the 6 August navy helicopter crash within the Adansi Akrofuom District, Ashanti Area, have now been obtained.

    Talking throughout the burial of two of the victims — Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Surroundings, Science, Know-how and Innovation and MP for Tamale Central, and Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, Performing Deputy Nationwide Safety Coordinator — the President defined that the stories had been obtained electronically, permitting for the interment to proceed.

    DNA samples of the victims had been despatched to South Africa for evaluation because of the extreme burns sustained within the crash.

    “Fortunately, that course of was ended yesterday [August 9]. We obtained electronically the forensic outcomes for our brothers [Murtala and Alhaji Muniru]. And that’s the reason we’ve come to bury forward. As I communicate, the forensic stories for the remaining have additionally arrived. However as we stated, on August 15, we are going to maintain a state funeral for all of them,” President Mahama acknowledged on Sunday, 10 August.

    In step with Islamic custom, Janazah prayers for the 2 had been led by the Nationwide Chief Imam, Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, on the Forecourt of the State Home in Accra. They had been subsequently laid to relaxation on the Navy Cemetery close to Burma Camp.

    The crash claimed the lives of eight people.

    The federal government declared a three-day interval of nationwide mourning, which included a flower-laying ceremony on 7 August and a memorial service on 9 August. A state funeral for all eight victims is scheduled to happen at Black Star Sq. in Accra on Friday, 15 August 2025.

    The Z-9 navy helicopter had departed Accra at 09:12 GMT, certain for Obuasi as a part of an anti-illegal mining operation. The Ghana Armed Forces later reported that the plane, carrying three crew members and 5 passengers, had gone “off the radar”. A direct search-and-rescue mission confirmed that each one on board had died.

    • Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed – Minister for Surroundings, Science, Know-how and Innovation; MP for Tamale Central

    • Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed – Performing Deputy Nationwide Safety Coordinator

    • Dr Samuel Sarpong – Nationwide Vice Chairman of the NDC

    • Samuel Aboagye – former parliamentary candidate

    • Squadron Chief Peter Bafemi Anala

    • Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu

    • Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah
