Scores of New Patriotic Occasion (NPP) supporters have thronged the premises of the Financial and Organised Crime Workplace (EOCO) following the arrest of Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly often known as Chairman Wontumi.

Chairman Wontumi was arrested by EOCO operatives shortly after leaving the Prison Investigations Division (CID) headquarters in Accra, the place he had earlier been questioned over allegations of unlawful mining actions, together with operations in forest reserves with out authorisation.

His arrest prompted a swift response from social gathering supporters, who gathered at EOCO’s headquarters to point out solidarity.

Amongst them had been senior social gathering officers, together with the NPP’s Basic Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, and Nationwide Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye.

At present, Chairman Wontumi is being interrogated by EOCO officers. It stays unclear how lengthy the questioning will final or whether or not he shall be launched or detained in a single day.

In keeping with experiences from JoyNews’ Latif Iddrisu, a minimum of 4 armed EOCO officers have been stationed on the gate, stopping supporters from getting into the premises because the scenario unfolds.

The exact causes for EOCO’s intervention stay undisclosed.
